I have spent more than 40 years in education. The first 10 years were spent teaching children in grades 3-8 (both neurotypical and those receiving special education services) in the Cleveland area. Since 1998, I have worked as a Professor in Special Education at Ohio University, in the Department of Teacher Education, preparing future Intervention Specialists. During my time at Ohio University, I served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education for the Patton College of Education, Assistant Chair, Co-Chair of the Department of Teacher Education, and program coordinator for both the graduate and undergraduate special education programs. I currently teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Special Education and Teacher Education.
My major research interests include mentoring for educators at all levels, Universal Design for Learning, and social and academic interventions for students with high incidence disabilities. I serve as the Board Vice-President of Southeast Ohio Youth Mentoring and as a member of the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
My husband and I live on a farm and run an Airbnb in beautiful Southeast Ohio just outside Athens, among the wildlife that occasionally includes bobcats (both real as well as those attending Ohio University). I enjoy being outdoors, gardening, attending sporting events, supporting local businesses, and spending time with family and friends.
